Country style pork ribs, despite the name, aren’t actually from the rib area but rather from the shoulder or blade of the pig.

These ribs are meatier and perfect for slow cooking methods, allowing the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender and juicy.

This dish carries an American tradition, often associated with backyard barbecues and family gatherings, bringing forth a savory, comforting meal that’s simple yet satisfying.

Nutrition Advantages of country style pork ribs:

Country style pork ribs provide a good amount of protein and essential vitamins and minerals like B vitamins and zinc. Slow-cooking allows the breakdown of connective tissues, making the meat easier to digest. Utilizing lean cuts and minimizing added fats can reduce saturated fat intake.

Country style pork ribs Ingredients:

  • · 1.5 kg country-style pork ribs
  • · 1 onion, finely chopped
  • · 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • · 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • · 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • · 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • · 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • · 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • · Salt and pepper to taste
  • · 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • · Olive oil for cooking

Country style pork ribs Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
  2. Season the pork ribs with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  4. Brown the ribs on all sides, working in batches if needed.
  5. Remove and set aside.
  6. In the same pot, add a bit more olive oil if needed.
  7. Saute the chopped onion and minced garlic until they turn translucent and fragrant.
  8. Create the Sauce:
  9. Add the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and beef or vegetable broth to the pot.
  10. Stir well to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  11. Add the Ribs and Simmer:
  12. Return the browned pork ribs to the pot, nestling them into the sauce mixture.
  13. Ensure the ribs are mostly submerged in the liquid.
  14. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, cover the pot, and transfer it to the preheated oven.
  15. Slow Cook in the Oven:
  16. Let the ribs cook in the oven for about 2.5-3 hours or until the meat becomes tender and easily pulls away from the bone.
  17. Once done, remove the pot from the oven.
  18. Carefully transfer the ribs to a serving dish. Optionally, spoon some of the sauce from the pot over the ribs before serving.
